CHINESE NEW YEAR

For the Chinese all over the world, Chinese New Year is very important day. In this modern era Chinese new year not just a festival but the meaning of Chinese new year has been expand more like family reunion (Tuan Yuen), it’s a perfect time to visit some relative, more known each other.


So it’s that Chinese New Year has relationship with religion?. The answer will be "No". Chinese New Year just like a tradition of Chinese. What ever religion you are as long as you are Chinese you can celebrate this Chinese New Year. How this festival fist time known as Chinese New Year or known at Spring Festival or "Guo Nian" according of the legend said, Long-long ago there was a monster in china known as "Nian". It’s was a very horrifying monster which looked like either dragon or unicorns. That monster came out on the same day each year to the near by villages to hunt people. So people were very much afraid of it and lock them self in the house early before sunset on the days of it’s coming.


One day there come an old wise man to the villages. He thought the people how to hunt the monster. The wise man asked people to organize together and to conquer the monster by means beating drum, burning the bamboo, and lighting up the firecrackers, and fireworks in purpose of making noises to threaten the monster.


In the freezing weather people have standby and ready to faces the monster. At the time the monster get near to the village the people then burning the firecrackers, and beating the drum wherever the monster went, by that terrible noises the monster was forced back and running away, but the people still chasing and succed kill the monster.


Since then, people kept the tradition by beating drum, lighting fireworks, firecracker at the coldest day in the winter to drive the monster away and to celebrate the victory over it. Today, "Nian" refers to the New Year’s day or known as the Spring Festival. Furthermore, "Nian" also means the year. we will often hear people greet each other by saying "Xin Nian Hao" which mean s "Happy New Year" "Xin" mean "New", "Nian" means "Year", and "Hao" means "Good".


In this modern era, most Chinese celebrate Chinese New Year by decorating there house by patch the front house with "Hui Chun". Hui Chun are four character phases written on pieces of red paper to express traditional sentiment for a rich and good fortune.
