Leaked vid shows redesigned PSP, but will fans be pleased?

by Mike Smith

A leaked video showing a redesigned PSP with a sliding screen and no UMD optical drive appears to confirm months of speculation in the video games community, reports Reuters.

Watch the Youtube video
Named the PSP Go, the new machine is smaller than the current PSP and conceals its control buttons with a sliding panel. It sports a 3.8" screen, 16 GB of on-board memory, and Bluetooth connectivity, and is substantially lighter than the current model.

But perhaps the biggest change is the removal of the PSP's much-criticized UMD optical drive, which added bulk to the system and reduced battery life. Instead of buying games on disk from stores, PSP Go owners will download them straight to the machine's internal memory, in a manner very similar to the iPhone's App Store.

Although there's no confirmation from Sony that the video is genuine, it's pretty much certain. It's apparently footage from an upcoming episode of Qore, a Sony-endorsed video magazine that's published on the official Playstation web site. If it's not real, it's the best-produced fake we've ever seen.

For current PSP owners, the new machine seems like a tough sell. Although Sony's addressed many of the issues with the current platform, if you already own PSP games on disk there's apparently no way to play them on the Go.

Expect to see the new machine showing up in stores this fall, but we haven't seen the last of the old-style model: Sony apparently plans to keep both machines on sale.

Big Kojima announcement coming May 18 - Report

Hot on the heels of rumors of a new Konami Xbox 360 exclusive and a Metal Gear Solid 4 port comes apparent proof that a major Kojima Productions announcement is imminent. Multiple online sources have posted scans of a two-page advertisement attributed to this week's issue of Famitsu magazine, Japan's top gaming publication.

Someone's gonna have a case of the Mondays.
The scan (pictured) shows a bleak landscape of dead grass and leafless shrubs under a bleak gray sky. On the horizon, a pair of figures can be made out, along with a low-lying building and a road. Besides the Konami and Kojima Productions logos, the ad has only two pieces of text: the date "2009.5.18"--next Monday--and the URL www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/next. As of press time, the URL only brought up a "not found" error page from the official Japanese Konami Web site.
Unfortunately, that's all the information available about the upcoming Konami project. However, if it is one of the two rumored 360 projects, Microsoft will have some wind in its sails coming into its June 1 press conference at the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo. Then again, the last time an Xbox 360 version of MGS4 was rumored, it ended up being Metal Gear Solid Touch for the iPhone Read more

Keiji Inafune and Suda 51 to speak at Nordic Game Conference

Noted Japanese developers/international gaming superstars Keiji Inafune (Capcom) and Suda 51 (Grasshopper) will be taking the approximately 15-hour journey from Japan to Sweden to speak at this year's Nordic Game Conference (being held on May 19 and 20 in Malmö, Sweden). Inafune will discuss Capcom's experiences with Western developers and how they have managed to create games with universal appeal, while other Japanese developers have struggled to make globally successful games. Inafune's presentation is timely, as he's currently wrapping up work on the re-imagining of Bionic Commando, which is being developed by Swedish studio GRIN.

"Having Keiji Inafune and Goichi Suda join Nordic Games this year highlights the strong and growing relationship between the Japanese and Nordic games communities and will offer attendees a unique opportunity to meet two of the most exciting game creators today," said Nordic Game program director Tom Felices. Their presence continues NGC's trend of bringing in major Japanese developers as speakers; past speakers include Fumito Ueda (Team ICO), Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Q Entertainment), and Masaya Matsuura (Parappa The Rapper creator).
At this point, you might be wondering why there is a Nordic Games Conference (in fact, this is the sixth one) in general. Well, remember that franchises such as Battlefield, Hitman, Max Payne, and Chronicles of Riddick, in addition to individual titles such as Just Cause and Super Stardust HD, all came from Nordic development studios. If the Research Triangle area in North Carolina can have a Games Conference, then so can the Nordic development community.

IRAQ GAMES GETS AXE

Mere weeks after its unveiling, contentious war game "Six Days in Fallujah" has reportedly been abandoned by game publisher, Konami.

"After seeing the reaction to the videogame in the United States and hearing opinions sent through phone calls and e-mail, we decided several days ago not to sell it," a Konami PR rep told Asahi.com. "We had intended to convey the reality of the battles to players so that they could feel what it was like to be there."
Revealed to the press earlier this month, "Six Days in Fallujah" focuses on the Second Battle of Fallujah, a grim 2004 conflict that claimed the lives of over 2,000 civilians, soldiers, and insurgents. Using a combination of firsthand accounts from three dozen U.S. soldiers and thousands of classified satellite photographs, the game attempts to recreate a week-long firefight from the perspective of U.S. Marines making their way through the dangerous streets of the war-torn city. What Games you Like Most?

I have seen on internet cafe or some amusement many player just sit there playing, even some auntie also there for playing games.

Before you start playing a games do you put some criteria to yourself which games going to play, such like strategy games, puzzle games, or some fun games.

For myself I love playing puzzle most then strategy games on the second.

If I feel boring I play fun games, coz you don’t have to think much for playing it.
